Freedom of Information Act

June 18, 2015

As a concerned citizen of the United States of America, it is your duty to exercise your right to vote.  Taking the term “concerned citizen” a step further, it is our duty to seek transparency in the government where transparency in not forthcoming.  The government is a bureaucracy, and oversights in informing the citizenry do occur without malice or ill intent.  First check if the information is publicly available.  If it is not, provisions are in place for the citizenry to legally seek information from government agencies through the Freedom of Information Act or FOIA.  This is a simple process of reasonably describing the records that you seek from the government agency of interest.  Find attached a sample FOIA for your use.
